Look at the new Links!

I have something new for all of you do look at! I have been working on putting lists of links along the right hand side of this blog for all of you! You ask: What are these? And how do I use them? Well, all you need to do is click on one of them to bring up different websites. I have made this blog a one stop area for you to get all of your information needs. Try it out! Take your cursor over to the right hand side and click on a Favorite Series or Helpful Website for Students.

CHECK OUT the link titled MATH DICTIONARY! It is amazing! I am not very good in math and I am telling you, this is an excellent tool to help anyone who struggles with math or enjoys math. Let me know what you think of it. Just try it! Please? Trust me I would not lead you astray!

Read Aloud!

Hello everyone,
This past week I began reading a few new chapter books to students in grades 3-5. The 3rd graders are listening to The Ink Drinker by Eric Sanvoisin. I stopped just before entering the cemetary... and have had students tell me that they think he is a ghost or a vampire. We shall have to wait and see! The 4th graders have started listening to me read On the Run: Chasing the Falconers written by Gordon Korman. This is the first in a 6 book series; and one of my all time favorite books! The students have realized that Meg and Aiden Falconer are stuck in a juvinelle prison for something they did not do. But I left them wanting to hear more! Finally the 5th graders have started listening to the book A Mango Shaped Space by Wendy Mass. I spoke with a few 5th grade teacher's to get a consensus on how hard this book would be to understand. The students shared their thoughts and feelings after I finished the first chapter. This is a realistic fiction book with a confusing opening...but if everyone sticks with it, "I promise it will be worth it!"

After the fires the entire school had to celebrate Halloween. I'm happy to hear that everyone had a great time at the Halloween Carnival. I enjoyed hearing everyone's Trick-or-Treating stories. Now we get to look forward to Thanksgiving. Next week I will be checking books out to everyone.

Talk to you all soon.

My First Computer Lesson!

Hello, Hello,
I am so excited right now. Today I taught my first computer lesson. I began my day with Mr. Vernia's class. I sat down next to the students and proceeded to show them how to bookmark the Miramar Ranch Lookup Page. How great is that? Everyone was able to follow along with me. I am in awe and amazement at how the new media center is working so far. I am in love with it! I hope you are too!

As the day went on I noticed that the computers slowed down. This may be a problem throughout the week. I will be talking to the computer teachers to solve this. Next week I will be showing classes how to find books at the public library online. Thanks for the great response to the library and media center.

Changes, changes, changes!

Hello everyone!
The new and improved library is up and running. I am happy to announce that it was a smooth ride this past week. I asked every class if they liked the new set up and I got all positive responses. Those of you who had media time on Monday and Tuesday were unable to use the new doc cam with your computer lesson. Get ready... it is up and running. When you walk by the library take a look at the wall with the large white paper. Mrs. Hamang and Mrs. Bacon will be projecting your computer lessons up on that wall.

I really like how the classes are spending 25 minutes with me and 25 minutes with the computer teacher. This allows me to read aloud, help you find books, and have conversations with all of you.
Please do not hesitate to approach me with any suggestions. We are off to a great school year.

See you all next week,
Miss Maile

Welcome Back to School!

Hello Students!
I am happy to announce that the first week back in the library was fun and exciting! I hope everyone found intersting books to check out. I noticed that "Ripley's Believe It Not" books did not stay on the shelf very long. And that a lot of students are asking for Judy Moody's little brother STINK this year. I will make sure to order more of those books.
This is my first time blogging...and I am a bit nervous. I'm sure you have never seen me nervous before. I hope to use this as an area to share my ideas with you, get your opinions, and use as a tool when you come down to the media center.
I will be seeing you all soon.
